My Experience:
Dr. Joerg Mayer is a dedicated, competent, and distinguished veterinarian with a real appreciation for the health concerns of cavies. Thanks to him, our guinea pig received the care she needed to live her eighth year in comfort, despite the many difficulties she was experiencing because of a large mass in her abdomen. He belongs on the short list of anyone looking for truly specialized cavy healthcare.
Research Notes:
He does a great deal of research on the evidence-based care of exotic companion mammals, on the metabolic problems of exotics, and a variety of other topics. More info at http://www.tufts.edu/vet/facpages/mayer_j.html.
Professional Notes:
He was also recently elected President of the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians. See his Welcome address at http://www.aemv.org/welcome.cfm.
